Last night was all about some good and some not so good.
Good - After a restful and nearly sun free afternoon, we went night fishing. About 15 people go out in one of the resort's boats about 5 miles offshore. They use recently caught fish as bait and someone cuts it up. The bait fish are nearly are 10-12 inches big each, but the bait pieces are about the size of a normal sashimi serving. We get out to our fishing spot, just past a very large reef and they anchor. The setting was beautiful. We left the resort at roughly 530pm and the sun sets at 615 or so. So we got to see and amazing sunset. We all get handed our fishing equipment, that does not consist of a pole of any kind. Rather, just a roll of fishing wire with a hook at the end. That's it. We bait the hook and literally drop them into the water.
Not so good - After two hours of fishing, I caught a small fish about 9 inches long. Mind you the bait fish they cut up was about 10 inches. Too bad. It was fun to be out on the boat, but the fish were too smart for us! The crew kept the lights on and played some W-style music in the background and when it came time to start the boat up and go home...our boat didn't start! We were stranded. But, the crew just called (on their cell phones no less) back to the resort and they sent the dive boat out to get us. So, after waiting 10 minutes or so, we all boarded the bigger dive boat and came back to the resort.
Good - We were pitied by another guest that we met on our original seaplane trip here. They are from Singapore and are very nice. They gave us two of the smaller fish they caught that are about the size of the bait fish. They were groupers. For dinner, we had decided earlier to barbecue in the room. I think one of the best features of the room is the large deck. They provide a table for two and a barbecue grill in every room! So, we ordered some steaks and veggies for grilling. The resort also cleans and scales the fish you catch so that you can grill it yourself! Then the come to your room, set up the grill and the table! We had a huge barbecue feast with very very fresh fish. It was amazing to catch, grill and eat the fish and the ribeye and veggies were great too. We sat outside, with a great view of the moon and stars and ate ourselves silly. When we were done...one phone call and they come and take everything away, sweep the deck and reset the table and grill. Amazing. All the fun but none of the work of grilling.
We were going to check out the club after our feast, but we both feel asleep outside with the nice ocean breeze for a few hours. We were too tired to go to the club after that. Maybe on Thursday when it opens again. Time to go swimming now after breakfast. More to come later...
